KEY STAT | Takeouts account for over 20% of China’s F&B industry

On average, each of the 500 million users placed 34 orders in 2020.

In 2020, China’s food delivery industry generated a total transaction volume of RMB 8.4 trillion (USD 1.3 trillion), up 14.8% year-on-year, according to CCTV Business, which cited data from Analysys.

Takeouts likely contributed to more than 20% of the entire catering industry’s revenue in 2020, said the China Hotel Association.

The total number of orders hit 17.12 billion in the year, as COVID-19 boosted the demand for takeaway services, equaling to roughly 34 orders for each of the 500 million users in the country.

In top tier Chinese cities, the penetration rate of F&B delivery services reached 96.31%, according to the CCTV news.
