CHINA BRIEF | Beyond Meat burgers to make China debut

After a partnership with Starbucks, the company is set to bring Beyond Burger to some Chinese KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut locations.

After a recent collaboration with Starbucks, alternative meat company Beyond Meat (NASDAQ: BYND) has partnered with Yum China (NYSE: YUMC), the operator of the KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell chains in the China, to introduce its plant-based meat products in limited runs, the two companies announced on Monday.

Starting June 3, Chinese consumers will be able to get Beyond Burger at KFC storefronts in Beijing, Chengdu, and Shanghai. Taco Bell will also sell a vegetarian version of its classic taco made from the Beyond Burger patty in Shanghai. Pizza Hut will offer its first-ever burger menu item via this partnership.

Following the announcement, Beyond Meat’s stock climbed 8.11%, closing at USD 138.69 per share on June 1, and Yum China’s price also rose by 1.36% to USD 46.97.

In April, coffee chain Starbucks introduced a plant-based menu featuring pasta, lasagna, and wraps made by Beyond Meat’s alternative beef product, KrASIA wrote.
