Foodpanda and AirAsia have announced a strategic partnership that capitalizes on their respective strengths and aims to provide users with greater value and convenience.
The partnership allows AirAsia’s ride-hailing service, AirAsia Ride, to be accessible directly through the Foodpanda app. In turn, Foodpanda — the largest on-demand food and grocery delivery service in Asia outside of China — will power AirAsia’s food delivery service. By leveraging Foodpanda’s extensive network of over 100,000 merchants and thousands of delivery partners, AirAsia can offer an expanded selection of food options to users on its superapp.
Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A (formerly AirAsia Group), expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. “We are laser-focused on fulfilling our travel superapp vision, and we are glad to have found positive synergy with a strong delivery partner as we move on to a dine-in model for our food business,” he said.
He emphasized the potential for collaboration in various areas, including payment solutions, loyalty programs, and joint subscription plans. The partnership marks the first step of this ambitious alliance, with this food and ride-hailing collaboration launching in Malaysia.
Jakob Angele, CEO of Foodpanda, echoed Fernandes’ sentiments, recognizing the opportunity to bring together two of Malaysia’s leading brands to offer unparalleled value, variety, and convenience to customers. With both platforms being household names in Malaysia, the partnership aims to leverage their strong customer base and reputation to create a seamless experience for users.
Mohamad Hafidz Mohd Fadzil, acting CEO of the AirAsia superapp, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing a comprehensive and convenient experience to users. He highlighted the AirAsia superapp’s role as a one-stop center for all travel-related needs, including flights, accommodations, rides, and culinary experiences. This landmark partnership further strengthens AirAsia’s position in the superapp space, paving the way for future innovation and expansion.
To celebrate the partnership, exclusive ride-hailing and food delivery deals will be available to users of both the AirAsia superapp and Foodpanda.
