Xiaomi says it has sold over 10 million units of its flagship Xiao AI smart speaker since July 2017.
The Xiao AI Speaker is China’s second-best selling smart speaker and the fourth-best worldwide, according to several market research companies, including Canalys and IDC.
China’s smart speaker market leader is Alibaba, whose Tmall Genie smart speaker passed the 10 million units sold milestone in early March. It looks like Xiaomi is catching up.
Overall, the Chinese smart speaker market is comparatively small compared to its global peers. As of Q4 2018, Alibaba held 7.3% of the global smart speaker market, followed by Baidu and Xiaomi, with respective market shares of 5.7% and 4.6%, according to market research firm Strategy Analytics. Total smart speaker sales were at over 80 billion units in the same quarter. Amazon and Google devices made up by far the largest bulk of sales.
