Fashion e-commerce firm Looksi, which was previously known as Zalora Thailand, has been spun off to merge into the ecosystem of Pomelo, the Bangkok-headquartered digital fashion company.
The deal was sealed after Looksi’s parent company, Central Group, participated in Pomelo’s USD 52 million funding round in September 2019. The investment’s other participants included Provident Growth Fund, InterVest Star SEAGrowth Fund, Lombard Private Equity, and The Luxembourg Company Deverel.
As part of the acquisition, Looksi will no longer operate its own app and website. Looksi’s social media channels and entire platform—including its user pool—will be integrated with Pomelo’s, according to a statement issued by Pomelo.
Zalora Thailand landed in the country in 2012. It was acquired by Central Group in 2016, and rebranded as Looksi the following year to avoid being confused with Lazada. Some of the brands carried by Looksi are Adidas, Aldo, Havaianas, Topshop, Guess, Levi Jeans, and Nike.
According to David Jou, co-founder and CEO of Pomelo, the deal will accelerate Pomelo’s plans to become a multi-brand fashion platform for fashion enthusiasts across Southeast Asia.
