Go-Jek to offer digital insurance services through Go-Sure

More digital startups are experimenting with insurtech services in Indonesia.

Indonesian ride-hailing Go-Jek just introduced its latest feature, an online insurance service called Go-Sure, in partnership with insurtech startup PasarPolis.

Go-Sure will only offer travel insurance products for now, but it’s expected to continue adding more services, considering PasarPolis various insurance products covering health, vehicles and property insurance. The new feature is currently in its beta phase and is not yet available to all users.

Go-Sure is not the first insurance product from Go-Jek as the company has previously launched Go-Proteksi in 2017, also in collaboration with PasarPolis. “Go-Proteksi is an insurance product for Go-Jek driver-partners, while Go-Sure targets Go-Jek customers,” said PasarPolis CEO, Cleosent Randing, to KrASIA.

According to Randing, PasarPolis will provide other types of insurance services in the Go-Jek ecosystem.

“In addition to Go-Proteksi and Go-Sure, we also collaborate to provide insurance for the Go-Ride passengers and public liability insurance to protect Go-Life Customers. Another service in our pipeline is cinema and event tickets cancellation insurance for users who buy tickets via Go-Tix,” Randing said.

PasarPolis is an insurance platform that connects individuals and business to insurers. In August 2018, the Indonesian-based company raised a Series A funding round by Indonesia’s three unicorn companies, namely Go-Jek, Tokopedia, and Traveloka.

Earlier this year, the firm expanded its business into Thailand and Vietnam to focus on customer-facing business in e-commerce, tourism, ride-hailing, online food delivery, and courier services.

The lack of insurance penetration in Indonesia has prompted many digital startups to start experimenting with insurtech products. In April, ahead of Muslim’s festive season Ramadan and Eid, Tokopedia introduced a home insurance service called “Tokopedia Asuransi Mudik” to give protection for users away for holidays.

Shortly after, the Indonesian travel tech platform Traveloka also launched a similar product.  Recently, Traveloka introduced a Schengen visa insurance aimed for users traveling to Europe. The insurance covers accidents and sickness, flight delays and cancellations, as well as baggage loss.
