China Literature, a leading online literature platform in China, announced Wednesday that it has formed a strategic partnership with Transsion Holdings, the top smartphone seller in Africa, to jointly expand into and develop the online reading market in the continent.

The company’s online reading app will be pre-installed on all Transsion-branded mobile phones sold in Africa, said the company in a press release. In its IPO prospectus, Transsion indicated that its market share in Africa increased from 33.7% in 2016 to 48.7% in 2018. It’s actually a Chinese company headquartered in Shenzhen but has developed phones with features that are popular with users in the African continent, such as cameras that are more sensitive to darker skin tones.

Online literature content distributed in Africa will initially be in English and consist of nearly 30,000 literary works from China Literature’s existing portfolio, said China Literature, adding that in the near future, the platform will begin distributing content in local languages and will also include content produced locally.
