For payments on the go.

After just 12 months of operating in Hong Kong, AlipayHK—the flagship product of a joint venture between Ant Financial Services Group and CK Hutchison Holdings—now has over 2 million users, according to an announcement by Alipay Payment Servives (HK) Limited . The e-wallet has also been adopted by 50,000 merchants.

Ant Financial chairman and CEO Eric Jing said, “Hong Kong is a key market for Alipay’s globalization. We will continue to support AlipayHK by bringing the best products and technology know-how to Hong Kong, in order to create unique value for users and merchants. In the future, we will also connect e-wallets from other regions around the world with merchants in Hong Kong, enabling them to benefit from mobile payment.”

Likewise, CK Hutchison co-managing director Canning Fok expects that AlipayHK will seize opportunities to develop and facilitate cross-border mobile payments throughout the development of the Greater Bay Area, which encapsulates nine cities in Guangdong, plus Hong Kong and Macau.
