China begins building massive Tibet dam

China has begun construction on a USD 170 billion hydropower dam on the Yarlung Zangbo River, its most ambitious project since the Three Gorges Dam. Expected to generate 300 billion kilowatt-hours annually, the dam boosted markets but raised concerns over environmental impact and downstream water security in India and Bangladesh.
