Trump claims restraint on Powell ouster

US President Donald Trump said he asked a group of Republican lawmakers whether he should fire Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell, and most backed the idea. “Almost all of them said I should,” he told reporters. “But I’m more conservative than they are.” The Fed chair can be removed only “for cause,” a legal standard that remains untested.
