China gives ocean data centers a go

China has begun building a wind-powered underwater data center near Shanghai to ease energy and water use in AI infrastructure. Using seawater cooling, the Hailanyun-led project claims 30% lower electricity consumption than land-based sites, as China pushes for greener digital growth.
