Indonesian government officials have been talking about Tesla’s interest to invest in the country for a year now.

The cash-strapped EV maker has yet to launch its first automobile, the FF 91.

The startup has supplied more than 8,000 vehicles to web-based platforms and logistics companies.

But its growth pace still lags behind Tesla by a mile.

Founded in 2015 in Shanghai, WM Motor launched its first model EX5 at the end of 2018, and the second model EX6 Plus in the fourth quarter of last year.

If the plan materializes, India would become the second country, outside of the US where Tesla will have an R&D center.
