Minors are circumventing the three-hour weekly cap on gameplay.

After the Chinese government said underage gamers can only play for three hours a week, reports flooded your screens about the draconian bent of the new rules. No doubt, they’re restrictive, but gamers will always find a way to play their favorite titles.

One of my colleagues, Mengyuan, set out to identify some of the tools that kids are using to bypass identity verification protocols. As it turned out, she wasn’t alone, because regulators in China were doing the exact same thing.

Mengyuan found online shops that rented out game logins linked to adult IDs. They’re cheap. They’re easy to use. Sales are racking up—but will they last?
